Fun Trips for the Whole Family

Wildwood Outfitters has been providing groups, families, and individuals fun adventures since 1972. Let our staff help you decide which trip is right for you or select from the options below.

Chattahoochee River Section 1

Our Section 1 trip starts at our Nacoochee outpost, just across from the Indian Mound.  From our outpost you will be shuttled to the Sautee Creek put in.  This is the most beautiful section of the Chattahoochee. The Chattahoochee River winds thru the Sautee Valley with small shoals, mountain laurel, and abundant wildlife. Half-way down the river is an old abandoned cheese dairy that spanned the river and used water power. If you are a first time paddler this is a great section to paddle. We offer canoe and kayak trips on this section, the trip is 6 miles long and takes 2.5 to 3 hrs.

Age limit is 5 years. This section is great for all levels of paddlers.

Chattahoochee River Section 2

Our Section 2 trip starts at the Duncan Bridge Outpost. You are shuttled up the river to the Hwy 255 Bridge. This is a more challenging section than section 1. This trip starts with several long Class 1 Rapids and smooth pools. The main rapid on this section is Smith Island. About three and a half miles down the river the damming action of Smith Island forms the Dead Sea. After paddling through the Dead Sea you will be able to hear the rapids of Smith Island.  This Class 2 rapid cannot be scouted and is run on the LEFT. You enter it on the left hand bank, run down to the first pool and move over to the island and run the last drop next to the island. The trip runs another mile where you pull out of the river left at the Wildwood Hwy. 115 parking lot. This section takes 2.5 to 3hrs and is 5 miles long. Canoes, kayaks and rafts are all great on this section.

Chattahoochee River Section 3

Wildwood Outfitters’ Section 3 trip starts at the Duncan Bridge Outpost. You are shuttled up to the Hwy 115 bridge. This is called the whitewater section of the Chattahoochee. Over the years thousands of whitewater paddlers got there start on this section of the river. After putting in there is a small drop below the bridge then a long pool, after rounding the bend you look down a long straight and can see the tip of an island, paddle to the left toward the island and run to the left. This is a class 2-3 rapid depending on the water levels. After a series of class 1 rapids you will see a large granite outcropping on the right, this means you are approaching Three Ledges. Many people consider Three Ledges the most challenging rapid on the river. This rapid starts on river left for first ledge after the drop work to the right side for second ledge and then head to the left of center for the third ledge and make sure you go off the 2 foot drop straight and paddling. Next is a series of class 1 rapids till another granite outcrop at the beginning of a long straight and at the end is Horseshoe Rapid, another class 2-3. Horseshoe Rapid starts on river left and is run like a horseshoe therefore the name. You start left and continue left and then make a sweeping right turn to a pool at the bottom. This section is good for all rafters and kayakers and for more experienced canoers. This section takes 2.5 to 3 hrs. ending at the Duncan Bridge Outpost.  Canoes, kayaks, and rafts are all good options for this trip.

Chattahoochee River Section 4

Our section 4 trip starts and the Duncan Bridge Outpost.  This is the most remote section of the Chattahoochee River.  It has the largest volume of water with a dozen class I rapids.  It can be paddled when other sections are too low.  It is 10 miles (6 hours) to the Belton Bridge Take Out but the trip can be shortened by using the Mossy Creek access at mile 5 (3 hours).  Canoes, kayaks, and rafts are available to Mossy Creek; canoes and kayaks only to Belton Bridge.
